A Little History Of Nancy’s Bagels

 

Located in Louisville’s vibrant Clifton neighborhood, Nancy’s Bagel Grounds fits snuggly with the eclectic boutiques, art galleries and upscale restaurants for which Frankfort Avenue is known for. This unique atmosphere lends itself our namesake’s own sense of style and adventure.

Nancy’s Bagel Grounds is owned by Nancy Haner Grantz. Nancy is a native of Louisville and is proud to have a business in her hometown. She learned the bagel business in a unique way. She moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming in her twenties to work on a ranch and ski. After spending time as a camp cook in the Wind River Mountain Range, She inadvertently found a job in a bagel and coffee shop and learned how to make the great New York Style bagels. When she decided to return to her hometown, she brought her newly learned skill home with her and opened Nancy’s Bagel Grounds. She has added many other great items to the store’s menu over the years to provide a full service café to the neighborhood.

Nancy’s Bagel Grounds has set itself apart from the rest since igniting the oven and opening the doors on September 29, 1996. It has been in operation for 16 years. Using only the freshest ingredients and top of the lines products allows us to provide our customers with healthy and delicious flavors. Along with making what we think is the best bagel in the bluegrass, we use coffee beans roasted by Columbia River Coffee Roasters out of Astoria, Oregon. It is a small batch roaster with high quality coffees, so we can offer the best of both worlds, great bagels and excellent coffee and espresso. There are many other menu items to tease the palate as well. We offer homemade soup throughout the winter season and fresh crisp gazpacho in the hotter months. Healthy fruit smoothies help cool the summer heat or start your day with a boost. Fresh salads and delicious sandwiches round out the menu. And for those who need their pastry, we make muffins and scones right here in our kitchen.

In March of 2008, Nancy’s Bagel Box was opened at 651 South 4th Street. It is located in the Theater Square Marketplace. This is the seconded location for Nancy’s Bagel Grounds. This location has sidewalk service with alfresco seating, as well as indoor seating for all the downtown patrons. We are excited about our expansion and hope that we can continue to serve and provide great food and service to everyone in Louisville.
